Green Corporate Investors (GCIs)
Green Corporate Investors (GCIs)
The polar opposite of GMI is the Green Corporate Investors (GCI). Where GMIs are may be central to rapid reforestation leveraging their numbers GCI are equally importantly in contributing to the green wave. A hybrid of the two is probably the best silver bullet to the environment challenge. The GCIs are expected to leverage their soft and hard assets to make investments highlighted above take off quickly and smartly. Secondly, they may use their influence to open markets that would otherwise be out of reach for an ordinary producer. Thirdly, for products like honey, the corporate investor may double as a product consumer. Take this hypothetical scenario which will work to make a reality:
Emirates Airlines is one of the largest in the world with a huge carbon footprint. It is a perfect example of GCI; where it can co-invest in W2E plants and in Bee hives. In both cases; Emirates Airlines can consume fuel produced by the W2E plant, the first of which is to be set up near Entebbe Airport and also consume forest farmed honey in Northern Uganda.
