Management of the Beehives

BRS (U) Ltd provides managerial oversight. Each Host Farmer (HF) is profiled, assessed and trained in Beekeeping, basic forestry and provided on climate change and importance of safeguarding nature and forests.  The HF apiaries shall provide security including guards, fire alarm system and constant inspection. As the project advances, cctv cameras and a perimeter fence will be installed to enhance the security of the apiaries where applicable. This will be intended to guard against theft, intrusion and unintended damage by wild or domestic animals.

Utilizing Beehives to remediate and replenish lost Nile River Basin habitats

For every Beehive placed, a minimum of ten (10) trees has to be planted upon placement and every year 1200 trees planted per beehive. This means that for 1000 Bee hives 1.2 million trees are to be planted in the first year. And for 1 million Bee hives; 1 billion trees are to be planted. The owners (Green micro investors- GMIs) of the Beehives will volunteer and sign up and ensure that the 100 trees are planted per month. Beehives and Bees as guardians of forests and habitats in Uganda and the region

In the regions where tree cutting for charcoal making and wood are rampant; bee hives act both as an incentive for community members to protect trees and habitants; and bees act as the first line defense. Bees sting and chase away the- would be loggers or charcoal makers. Bees allow no disturbance around the bee hives. Most young people involved in cutting trees have brushed shoulders with bees and they fully understand the strength of sting of the African Bee. The presence of bee hives in the forest therefore can be potent deterrence to any encroachment.
